The regular season came to an end on Oct. 17 for Oxford’s long distance runners at the OAA red division championship meet.
Finishing the season strong, the Wildcats made a solid showing at the race.
The boys started off the meet with a 5,000-meter race, during which a few Wildcats finished near the front. Rounding out the top 10, senior John “JJ” Bagans took 10th place with a time of 16:12.09. Just behind him in 11th and 12th place were junior Scott Masterson and senior Hunter Green. Masterson ran a time of 16:27.17 and Green came in with a time of 16:31.80.
Two other Oxford runners to finish the race near the front were senior Shane Moore and junior Zach Allion, who finished back-to-back in 20th and 21st, respectively and ran times of 16:56.10 and 16:56.70.
The ladies didn’t finish as close to the front a the boys in the 5,000 meter race, but they had runners near the front of the pack as well. Freshman standout Alaine Cusick was the first Wildcat to finish the race, coming in 14th with a time of 19:46.53. Not far off in 17th place was sophomore Lauren Schiller, who ran a time of 19:52.06.
Other top finishing ladies were junior Maddie Lukens, coming in 21st with a time of 20:13.17; junior Paige Miller, finishing with a time of 20:27.96 and taking 27th place; and senior Molly Long, taking 28th place after running a time of 20:30.04.
Moving into the post season, the Wildcats will be back at it on Oct. 23 at the Lake Fenton Invitational.
