The Lady Wildcats varsity basketball team is amping up for another successful season.

There are 14 girls on the team this season with seven returning players.

Head Coach Rachel Bryer said she is looking to help her players improve every day and to help them push their limits and beat expectations.

“There’s room for improvement in everything we do, but we always focus on defense. I want this year’s team to set the bar high for those athletes that plan on playing varsity basketball one day,” said Head Coach Rachel Bryer.

Bryer forsees her team accomplishing great things on the court this season and said she takes pride in its demonstrated ability to work together for the good of the team– not the individual.

With a host of talented players on the Lady Cats basketball team, Bryer added that she is looking forward to watching some of her more seasoned players help guide the performance of the team’s greener athletes.

“This year, I believe I have a team that will surprise me. We have already had games where almost all my players scored, and every day in practice someone new is stepping up. It is a great feeling when you have confidence in all your players. I have four seniors that I believe will take charge: seniors Lila Haddan, Kaitlyn Bean, Olivia Clark, and Darian Graves. These girls have been with me for the past two years, and I am looking forward to having their leadership on and off the court,” said Bryer.

So far, the Lady Wildcats basketball team has been off to a great start. The Lady Cats basketball team earned a 24-21 win over Lapeer on Dec. 14, bringing the team’s overall record to 3-1.

Lauren Methner had 15 points to lead the Wildcats that night, while Ashley Hershman added eight points.

The team’s win that night followed another– which took place on Dec.12, when the team thwarted Stoney Creek’s efforts and earned a 36-33 win.

Lauren Methner lead the Wildcats in scoring that evening, while Mackenzie Methner lead the team in rebounds.

Up next, the Lady Cats are scheduled to go up against Troy on Tuesday, Dec.19.
