Sunrise Assisted Living plans to participate in Memory Walk

Sunrise Assisted Living in Clarkston is sponsoring a team at the Alzheimer’s Association 2003 Memory Walk.
“This is the biggest fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association with all the proceeds going to help fight this terrible disease,” Sunrise Assisted Living in Clarkston Director of Community Relations Linda Ponce said.
The event will take place on Saturday, Aug. 23 at the Detroit Zoo. All nine Sunrise Assisted Living organizations in Michigan will be participating. Clarkston expects around 25 people to participate on their team.
The goal of the team is to raise $3,000. In addition to taking pledges for the walk, the group is also planning an auction for Aug. 19.
“We have contacted local businesses and they are really supporting us. We are really excited about everything everyone has donated,” Ponce said.
Among the items set to be auctioned are free oil changes, flowers, gift certificates and an evening at a Bed and Breakfast.
The auction is set for 7 p.m. on the patio at Sunrise Assisted Living in Clarkston which is located at 5700 Water Tower in Independence Township.
“We have people in our community with Alzheimer’s and we have witnessed how it destroys the mind, the body and the family. When you see that there is no way you can say no to an event like the Memory Walk.
