A 23-year-old Oxford man was arrested after he started a fire inside a Lakeshore Circle residence in Oxford Township.
According to Oakland County Sheriff Deputy reports, at about 5:30 in the afternoon on May 5, a neighbor of the man called to report he was in his home, busting out widows and yelling. The man’s girlfriend had also contacted deputies that the man had threatened to “blowup” the trailer and stated his desire to commit suicide.
When deputies arrived they communicated with the man through the broken windows. They saw he was bleeding from cuts on his arms and neck. He told deputies he wanted to kill himself or have the deputies kill him.
Deputies called in the Sheriff’s tactical unit (SWAT) and a negotiator to the scene. At some point during a conversation with the negotiator, the man reportedly started a fire inside the residence. That’s when the SWAT unit went in, extinguished the fire and arrested the man. He was transported to an area hospital to treat his wounds, then arrested for starting the fire and lodged in the Oakland County Jail.
