In their first meet of the new year, Oxford’s boys swim and dive team took on Romeo and Notre Dame Prep in a dual meet on Jan. 17. The Wildcats conquered Romeo 126-60 and Notre Dame 130-44.
“After four weeks of training since the last dual meet, we saw quite a few time drops and it was nice for the boys to get back to competing,” Head Coach Jackie Rank said. “We (also) saw quite a few areas in need of improvement such as turns, under waters and relay exchanges. The season is going to move very quickly now and the boys have to keep working hard at practice and continue to set goals for themselves.”
In the relays, Carson Wolf, Cameron Pollard, Ben Datsko and Zach Beatty kicked off with an overall win in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:45.92. In the 200 Freestyle Relay, Wolf, Pollard, Beatty and Cole Bukoski also took first overall with a time of 1:36.68.
Rounding out the relays with another win, Pollard, Bukoski, Beatty and Wolf took first overall in the 400 Freestyle Relay with a time of 3:31.56.
Starting the individual events, Nathanial Johnston took first against Notre Dame and second to Romeo in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:57.81. Johnston later took second overall in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:12.16.
In the 200 Individual Medley, Bukoski took first to Romeo and second to Notre Dame with his time of 2:13.92.
During the individual freestyle races, Pollard took first overall in the 50 Freestyle, Wolf took first overall in the 100 Freestyle and Beatty took first overall in the 500 Freestyle.
Datsko also brought home some top finishes, with an overall win in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 57.15 and a finish of 1.00.76 in the 100 Backstroke, which earned him first against Romeo and second to Notre Dame.
Finishing the meet with a little diving, Evan Covert took first overall, scoring a season-best of 159.40.
Even though their next meet is Jan. 24 against Bloomfield Hills, the team has the Oakland County Championships on the brain.
“Our goal over the next week is to continue our unbeaten streak and qualify some more boys for the Oakland County Championships,” Rank said.
