Swim team goes 1-1 for the week

Oxford’s swimmers and divers beat Clarkston and fell to Bloomfield Hills last week. Despite the inclement weather causing an inability to practice, the boys continued their winning streak for one more game and came within a few points of a tough team.

Head Coach Jackie Rank said she expected the Bloomfield Hills meet on Jan. 24 to be a tough one. She expected the boys to lose by 24 points, but by the end of the match they were just two points short to lose 94-92.

In the 200 Medley Relay, Oxford won with a season-best time of 1:44.36. The swimmers were Zach Beatty, Ben Datsko, Carson Wolf and Carter Pollard. Later in the 400 Freestyle, Beatty, Pollard, Wolf and Cole Bukoski picked up first with a time of 3:24.05.

Beatty kicked off the individual events with a win in the 200 Freestyle. He swam a season-best time of 1:50.68 in the win. Beatty also came out on top in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 4:56.23, another season-best for him.

Wolf also picked up two wins in the meet. He swam a time of 54:88 in the 200 Individual Medley to win and break his own school record. He also swam 54.88 in the 100 Butterfly, which grabbed him a win and broke the school record.

Rounding out the wins for the night, Nolan May took a win in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:01.06.

On Jan. 22, the Wildcats took on Clarkston and came out on top 104-81.

Starting with the relays, Oxford picked up a couple of wins. Beatty, Datsko, Wolf and Pollard took first in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:46.55.

The Wildcats also picked up a win in the 400 Freestyle Relay when Beatty, Pollard, Wolf and Bukoski swam a time of 3:30.90.

Wolf grabbed the first individual win of the night and broke his own record in the 200 Individual Medley with a time of 2:03.79. Wolf later picked up another win the in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 4:55.93.

Also picking up wins were Pollard in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 51.72, Datsko in the 100 Breaststroke with a season-best time of 1:04.61 and Nathanial Johnston in the 100 Backstroke.

The boys are now 6-1 overall.

They’ll be back in the pool on Feb. 1 and 2 at the Oakland County swimming and diving meets.
