Oxford’s boys varsity swim team beat the formerly undefeated North Farmington at a Feb. 8 meet, winning with a 111.5 to 73.5 score and sweeping nine of the twelve events.
The Oxford A Relay of junior JJ Bagans, Peter Bagans, senior captain Garrett Warren, and freshman Zach Beatty started the meet off with a win in the 200 Medley.
Beatty followed the relay up with wins in both the 200 Freestyle and the 500 Freestyle.
Senior captain Brandon Powers was also a double event winner with the fastest times in the 50 Freestyle and 100 Freestyle.
Senior captain Mitchell Mulligan led the way in diving while Warren touched first in the 100 Butterfly with a new school record.
The 200 Freestyle Relay of Powers, Carter Pollard, Michael Scepka, and Zach Acton claimed the top spot and JJ Bagans won the 100 Breaststroke with a new school record.
“The thing is, this meet could not have been won with just those nine wins. It was Oxford’s depth that allowed us to beat North Farmington by 38 points,” said Head Coach Jackie Rank.
Rank noted how Oxford’s swimmers didn’t let anything stop them.
“Athletes like Cole Bukoski, Michael Scepka, and Peter Bagans who swam while feeling under the weather. Athletes like Zack Acton, JJ Bagans, Alex Olheiser, and Caelan Leone who swam through injury. Athletes like Ethan LaRock, Ben Datsko, Nolan May, Cameron Mumbrue, Zach Allion, Carter Pollard, Evan Covert, and many others who work hard at each practice to get better,” she said. “This is a wonderful team and we have a little over a week to finish preparing us for our next goal of becoming League Champions.”
On Thursday, February 22, the Cats will host West Bloomfield for the Oakland Activities Association (OAA) Diving Championship at 5 p.m.
