Oxford’s swimmers ended their regular season on Oct. 16 by defeating Royal Oak 119-67. Not only did the Wildcats secure a victory, they claimed first in every event during the meet. The win was particularly meaningful for the team’s seniors, who swam at home for the last time as Wildcats.
In the 200 Medley Relay, Oxford’s A Relay girls junior Ashlee Weltyk, sophomore Grace Charnstrom, freshman Cali Schnur and sophomore Jenna Fistler finished in 1:58.16, claiming first. The girls also took the winning slot in the 400 Freestyle Relay with a time of 3:51.01.
In the 200 Freestyle Relay, the A Relay team of senior Clair Alexander, junior Kaleigh Rogers, sophomore Laura Mace and sophomore Peyton Bailey grabbed a win with their time of 1:53.50.
Schnur kicked off the individual events with a win in the 200 Freestyle, which she finished in 2:07.62. The time was a personal-best for the swimmer. She also took first in the 100 Breaststroke, finishing with a time of 1:13.22.
Weltyk took home first in the 200 Individual Medley with a time of 2:17.11 and her teammates Bailey and sophomore Addie Bishop took second and third in the race, respectively. Weltyk later took first in the 500 Freestyle with a personal-best time of 5:51.63.
Fistler also left the match with a pair of wins, taking first in the 100 Butterfly and 50 Freestyle with times of 1:04.75 and 25.76. In the 100 Butterfly, fellow Wildcat sophomore Nellie Charnstrom grabbed second.
In the 100 Freestyle, the Wildcats took the top three spots. Grace Charnstrom took first, swimming a time of 59.27. Rogers grabbed second and Bailey picked up third. Later, Charnstrom also secured a win in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:07.10.
In the diving event, senior Keira Veltigian once again picked up first, scoring 204.25.
With the regular season over, the Wildcats will be back in the pool for post season competition on Oct. 31 at Lake Orion High School for the OAA white preliminaries. The diving preliminary will take place the next day.
Finals will take place on Nov. 2, which the top 24 swimmers from the three brackets in each event will be invited to. The Wildcats hope to make their presence known at the finals competition.
