Competing in the Oakland Activities Association White prelims at Lake Orion High School on Nov. 8, two Oxford Lady Wildcats qualified for the Michigan High School Athletic Association State Meet on Nov. 22-23.
Posting a time of 25.09, senior Ashlee Weltyk, a team captain, qualified in the 50-meter freestyle. A longtime
member of the Liquid Lightning program, Weltyk’s time is currently third-best in the state.
Joining Weltyk will be junior Grace Charnstrom. Qualifying in the 100-meter breaststroke, Charnstrom’s time
of 1:07.87 was good enough for a new school record.
In addition to the swimmers’ success, Oxford’s divers put on an impressive performance in the meet. Racking up a new personal-best score of 343.3, junior Amelia Knotts took home first-place.
Fellow junior Peyton Warren came in seventh-place; both girls will represent the school in the MHSAA Diving Regional at L’Anse Creuse North on Nov. 14.
