The Oxford varsity swim team is now 1-1 on the season after a strong 147-36 victory over Ferndale last Thursday. Oxford claimed the top spot in all 12 events at the home meet.
In the 200 Medley Relay, Oxford’s A Relay of Paige Hodder, junior Victoria McClenaghan, senior Captain Danielle Kemp, and Christina Boydston took first with a time of 2:11.87. Oxford’s B Relay of sophomore Tate Hamilton, Mattie Johnson, Keira Veltigian, and Sabrina Kurk came in second for Oxford.
In the 200 Freestyle, Oxford freshman Ashlee Weltyk came in first with a time of 2:06.41, putting her third on Oxford’s All-Time Top Ten List. Claire Alexander took second and Cailin Griffith took third place.
In the 200 Individual Medley, senior Captain Bella Giannola finished first, with a time of 2:27.71. McClenaghan claimed third place.
In the 50 Freestyle, junior Captain Rachel Commons claimed first with a time of 27.27, which puts her seventh on the All-Time Top Ten List. Emily Vican and Caitlyn Geda rounded out the top three.
In diving, senior Jenna Zeiter took first with a score of 179.30. Veltigian placed second and Sage Brocco placed third.
In the 100 Butterfly, Bella Giannola came in first with a time of 1:06.05. Rachel Commons and Claire Alexander rounded out the top three spots.
In the 100 Freestyle, Oxford freshman Ashlee Weltyk finished first for the second time with a time of 57.85, which puts her third on the All-Time Top Ten List. Sabrina Kurk came in second. Cailin Griffith finished third.
In the 500 Freestyle, Kemp claimed first place with a time of 6:05.55. Emily Vican took second place and Rachael Baker took third.
In the 200 Freestyle Relay, Oxford’s A Relay of Weltyk, Alexander, Commons, and Giannola took first with a time of 1:50.37. Oxford’s B Relay of McClenaghan, Griffith, Schonfeld and Kemp finished in second place.
In the 100 Backstroke, Hamilton came in first with a time of 1:15.23, putting her 10th on the All-Time Top Ten List. Kurk and Hodder rounded out the top three spots.
In the 100 Breaststroke, McClenaghan finished first with a time of 1:20.97. Kaleigh Rogers came in fourth and Johnson placed fifth.
In the 400 Freestyle Relay, Oxford’s A Relay of Commons, Alexander, Giannola, and Weltyk claimed first with a time of 4:01.09. Oxford’s B Relay of Boydston, Kemp, Griffith, and Kurk took second place.
Oxford will take on Stoney Creek Sept. 15 at the OHS Natatorium at 6 p.m.
