Oxford tennis’ momentum slowed for a moment last week. The team, which has had the habit of stomping out the competition, fell in a tough match against the Dragons.
On Wednesday, Sept. 19, Oxford lost to rival Lake Orion 5-3. Oxford’s doubles teams in particular took a rough hit, just winning one match. Doubles team junior Cameron Mumbrue and freshman Chase Maier won the Wildcats’ only doubles match with a victory in No. 4 Doubles.
On the singles end, junior Trevor Wallace and sophomore Gabriel Smith were able to take home wins in the No. 3 and No. 4 Singles, respectively.
Head Coach Ryan Ruzziconi said Oxford fought hard in the loss, with many of the matches “going into the deciding third set.”
This game moves the Wildcats to 10-4 overall. Oxford will take the court again at home on Sept. 27 against Royal Oak.
