Competing in Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) regional play at Clarkston High School on Oct. 10, the Oxford Wildcats boys’ tennis team wrapped up a strong 2019-20 season.
Finishing tied for sixth among the eight schools in the regional, the Wildcats’ point was scored by junior Nolan Kutchey and senior Avery VonAllmen in the third doubles flight.
Juniors Zach Buchanan and Alex Robb narrowly missed adding another point to the team’s total in the fourth doubles flight.
Leading the way with 20 points, Bloomfield Hills won the regional. Clarkston (15 points) and Rochester (12) also advanced to the State Finals at the Midland Tennis Center on October 18-19.
Winners of the OAA Blue Conference Tournament, Oxford concluded the season at 11-2-1 (5-0).
“This is a tough regional to be in,” head coach Ryan Ruzziconi said of the action at Clarkston.
“I feel very good about the future of the Oxford boys’ tennis program and its ability to grow into one of the top teams in this region soon.
“Next year, we will have seven returning varsity players. It is important to use the fact we are a veteran squad in our favor.”
