In a week full of tough losses for Oxford Athletics, the Wildcat spikers dropped a match against Stoney Creek 3-0 with sets of 25-21, 25-14 and 25-18.
Head Coach Brian Kim praised senior McKenzie Miller and senior Anna Ibarra, who “set the tone for the offense,” with their stellar serve receive and defense despite having a hard team to defend.
Following the lead of the defense, junior Sydney Richter and sophomore Molly Miller led the offense with eight kills apiece. Junior Maddy Weiss also put in solid offensive effort with 22 assists, which was the team high for the match.
Kim noted that Stoney Creek is a tough team, and thinks the ladies took advantage of some of the opportunities they were given to put points up on the board, though the team will continually work on its defensive and serve receiving skills in the hopes of claiming victories against elite teams in the future.
“The team battled hard against a strong Stoney team, currently ranked No. 7 in the state,” he said. “The team had a couple of late opportunities in game one (down 22-21) and game three (down 21-18), but was unable to capitalize on the opportunity to come back to win.”
After playing a match against Troy on the road on Sept. 25, the Wildcats will take their home court again on Sept. 27 when they will host Rochester Adams.
