OXFORD VILLAGE – On Friday morning, an accident that encompassed both the southbound and northbound lanes of M-24, just north of Lincoln St., rendered all three of the involved vehicles undriveable and sent one driver to the hospital.

According to the village police report, a 70-year-old Addison man was stopped in the left southbound lane, waiting to turn left into the Genisys Credit Union parking lot, when his 2007 Chrysler Town and Country was struck from behind by a southbound 2013 Ford Flex driven by a 22-year-old Oxford woman.

The Flex driver was unable to stop within an assured clear distance and attempted to change lanes, but ultimately crashed into the Chrysler, the report stated.

The impact pushed the Chrysler into the northbound lanes where it collided head-on with a 1934 two-door Ford driven by an 81-year-old man from Garner, North Carolina.

Per the report, a witness told police the driver of the Flex “passed him at a high rate of speed” prior to the crash.

Oxford firefighters transported the North Carolina man to McLaren Oakland hospital in Pontiac.
