Brandon Twp.- A 20-year-old township man has been charged with criminal sexual conduct, third degree, after allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl.
The suspect’s name is being withheld to protect the identity of his victim.
The victim, now 14, and her grandmother filed a csc complaint at the Brandon substation on Jan. 21. According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office report, the grandmother said she was told on Dec. 1 that her granddaughter was forcibly raped by the suspect in the summer of 2014 at a party in the Sashabaw Meadows Mobile Home Park in the township, when the girl was 13 and the suspect 19. The victim told her grandmother that the man removed her pants and when she refused, he put his hand over her mouth to stop her from screaming. He then raped her.
The victim’s aunt said her niece also told her she was raped. The aunt said she allowed the victim to use her cell phone and the victim had a Facebook discussion with the suspect regarding their sexual involvement. The aunt emailed a copy of the conversation, in which the suspect asks the victim for sex and the two discuss various sex acts.
The victim was interviewed and said she only had sex with the suspect once last summer. She admits ‘dating? him, but denied having sex after the first incident. She said the suspect was aware she was 13-years-old and she knew he was 19. She told the detective she was not raped, but voluntarily had sex. The suspect admitted having sex with the victim, but said he stopped because he realized it was wrong because of her age and he could get in serious trouble.
OCSO Sgt. Greg Glover said in this case, family members recognized the girl was having trouble in school both academically and socially, which alerted them to a problem.
‘Parents need to ask questions and stay in their kids? lives,? he said. ‘Check their Twitter and Facebook accounts and keep an eye on what they are doing on social media, the kids post everything on there.?
