Township man charged with arson

Brandon Twp.- A 21-year-old township man was recently arraigned on a charge of arson-preparation to burn property, $1,000 or more, less than $20,000, stemming from an altercation with his mother that ended in the man dousing his father’s car with gasoline.
Brandon David Zaner was arraigned on the charge June 19 in front of 52-2 District Court Judge Kelley Kostin.
On June 14, deputies were called to the home in the 5800 block of Bliss Drive for a report of domestic violence. According to police reports, deputies arrived to find a large hole in the wall, a broken lamp and mirror, a bookcase knocked over, and other damage. Zaner’s mother was crying and told police she was afraid of her son, who had spit at the car and her and had thrown a trash can and bench. She pepper sprayed him and he poured gas on a Camaro in the driveway before leaving.
Zaner later returned and told deputies he was upset and embarrassed by what he had done. He was committed to the hospital for psychiatric observation and later taken to Oakland County Jail, where he remains in custody on $100,000 bond C/S, no 10 percent. He was also arraigned June 19 on an outstanding warrant for retail fraud under $1,000 in front of 52-3 District Court Judge Julie A. Nicholson. That bond is $10,000 C/S, no 10 percent.
A preliminary exam for Zaner is scheduled for 8:30 a.m., June 26, in front of Judge Kostin.
