Two Oxford Township men are facing charges for their alleged involvement in a shooting that occurred around 9 p.m. Oct. 26 at the intersection of Oakdell, Glaspie and Olive roads, just west of M-24.
Both men were arraigned via video Oct. 28 before Judge Lisa Asadoorian in Rochester Hills 52-3 District Court.
The alleged shooter, Nathan Jamesfrederick Perkins, 17, was arraigned on two counts of attempted murder and two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony. Attempted murder has a maximum penalty of life in prison.
Perkins was denied bond and remains lodged in the Oakland County Jail.
Trevor Jacob Bryant, 18, was arraigned on charges of carrying a concealed weapon (a five-year-felony) and accessory after the fact (a five-year-felony) with regard to the attempted murder charge. Bryant is accused of concealing the handgun in his vehicle following the shooting.
Bryant was released on a $25,000 personal bond.
According to Oakland County Sheriff’s Lt. Scott Patterson, Perkins and Bryant were in a Chevrolet Trailblazer that followed a 2010 Ford Fusion, containing two 20-year-old Oxford men, after it left the BP gas station, located at the southeast corner of Oakdell Rd. and M-24.
Perkins allegedly told Bryant, who was driving the Trailblazer, to follow the Fusion. Patterson said Perkins was acquainted with one of the men in the Fusion.
The Fusion crossed M-24, proceeded west on Oakdell Rd., then turned right onto Glaspie Rd. heading north.
It was approximately 70 yards down the road, when it was struck by gunfire, according to Patterson.
The Fusion was hit three times. One of the bullets shattered the rear windshield. Another struck the rear passenger-side tire. A third bullet hit the brake light on the trunk.
No one in the Fusion was injured.
Bryant told investigators it was Perkins who had the gun and fired the shots, according to Patterson. A 17-year-old Oxford man who was riding in the front-seat of the Trailblazer during the incident also told investigators that Perkins did the shooting, the lieutenant said.
Perkins allegedly fired four to five shots.
Patterson said four shell casings were recovered from the three-street intersection.
The Trailblazer was impounded and a .45-caliber handgun was recovered from the glovebox.
Following the shooting, the handgun was reported stolen after the owner realized it was missing. The owner told investigators the gun, which was registered, was taken from his vehicle while parked on Roy Rd. near Stony Lake.
