Upping its record to 6-3 this week, Oxford girls lacrosse defeated Royal Oak and Avondale in two high-scoring games.
On April 25, the Wildcats took down Avondale in a 13-1 game. Head Coach Aliisa Mason was excited to take on the Yellow Jackets, a program in its first year being coached by her sister and former Oxford Coach, Siiri Mason.
Senior Josie Kane led Oxford on the offense with four goals. She was followed by junior Chloe Schulz and freshman Megan Alban, who both scored two goals. Alban and Schulz were also key in getting the ball into scoring range from the midfield.
Defensively, senior Kennedy Brisbon and juniors Audrey Hermanson, Brynn Pierse and Gwyn Love led the way.
On April 24, the girls took a wide 16-9 win over Royal Oak. Oxford struck in the first minute of the game and never turned back.
The offense came to play hard, with senior Josie Kane grabbing seven goals throughout the night and junior Olivia Soule taking four points. Key defensive players in the win were once again the combo of Brisbon, Hermanson, Pierse and Love. Together, the ladies created a number of turnovers.
Sophomore goaltender Gracie Fritsche fought hard through the whole game and was reportedly seen using her whole body to keep the ball out of the Wildcat net.
Now 5-3 overall, girls lax will be back at it on May 1 when the team travels to Farmington Harrison.
