Twp. man pleads guilty in attempted rape

A 26-year-old Brandon Township man is facing 9-20 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges relating to an attack on a neighbor in September.
Michael Lee Friske pleaded guilty on Jan. 16 to charges of first degree home invasion, assault with intent to commit sexual penetration, and felonious assault, in front of Sixth Judicial Circuit Court Chief Judge Wendy Potts.
According to police reports, in the early morning hours of Sept. 5, the victim, a woman in her mid-20s, was asleep on the couch with her 2-year-old daughter when she was awakened by a window breaking in the rear of the home located in the 3700 block of Red Bud Lane in the Clarkston Lakes Mobile Home Park.
While investigating the noise, she encountered Friske, who was armed with an edged weapon, in the hallway. A struggle ensued, during which she managed to get a door between them. She pushed the door, setting off an alarm, and escaped the home with her child to a neighbor’s home.
Friske fled the scene, but evidence left there led to his arrest.
There were also indications that Friske, whose home is located behind the victim’s home, was familiar with the woman, although he was unknown to her.
Friske also pleaded guilty to a breaking and entering charge from a May 20 incident in Orion Township at the Discount Dollar.
Sentencing on all charges is set from 10:15 a.m., Jan. 30 in front of Judge Potts.
