Hoping to take their league title this season, the Wildcat golfers are leaning on the talent of their upperclassmen this spring.
“We have to rely on our veterans, of course,” said Head Coach Terry Kelly.
Heading into ten tournaments this season, Kelly is hoping his boys will take wins in half of those. He thinks between his returning talent and the hungry new athletes coming up from the JV squad, the Wildcats could be in for a strong season.
“We have five real capable returning varsity lettermen, and we brought three fellows up from JV who are anxious to prove they belong on varsity,” Kelly said.
Led by seniors Keaton Cleland and Ryan Cobb as captains, the boys are currently working on driving swings in their first few outdoor practices. Kelly is waiting to have a better idea of what the boys are capable of, but he thinks the Wildcats could be in for a strong scoring year.
“This is going to be an interesting season, I think, because anybody who is on varsity has a chance to be a leading scorer,” he said. “There’s that kind of talent.”
The team’s first competition of the year is on April 12, in which they will compete at the Lapeer Tune Up tournament in Metamora.
