After working at big health clubs, Jerry Lockwood and his partner Dr. Michael Sartorius were looking for something a little more personal, so a little over a year ago they opened VIP Training.
“We got tired of the big health club atmosphere, where people walked around aimlessly, so we decided to open a place that actually showed people how to work out and not depend on a machine,? said Lockwood. “They’ll learn how to work out at home or wherever they are at.?
With five certified trainers on staff with varying backgrounds including marathon runners, Iron Man, bodybuilding/ power lifting backgrounds, and kick boxing, VIP Training works with everyone from first timers to post rehab athletes.
“You don’t have to have a membership here,? said Lockwood. ‘So, you actually could be a member at an actual gym and workout here at the same time.?
VIP Training also offers 18 classes a week in a variety of areas including ‘Zumba,? which is a dance class, boot camp class, and 30-minute abs. As well as on and off season training for younger athletes in hockey, football and basketball.
“One thing we actually have coming up this summer is a high jump/vertical jump program that will increase 4-12 inches in 8-10 weeks,? Lockwood said. ‘So that’s basically useful for most athletes.?
He noted they do training in-group or team settings as well as one on one.
“We go to the grocery store with all of our one-on-one personal training clients and show them the right foods to eat and some of the unique things we do,? he said.
Satorius who is a doctor in physical therapy supervises all the programs for injury prevention. He was also the strength conditioning coach at Eastern University.
Lockwood received his certification through the National Academy of
Sports Medicine.
“The biggest thing I want to stress is we don’t work with just athletes, but we work with everybody,? said Lockwood.
