Wallace A. Liley, Jr., a lifelong Oxford resident and 1959 graduate of Oxford High School, passed away on Oct. 4, 2018. He was 77.
Wallace was born on May 29, 1941. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Oakland University and his Master’s Degree from Michigan State University.
He retired from Lake Orion Schools where he taught American History and Civics.
Wallace coached baseball and football during his years at the school system which earned him a place in each of the Michigan High School Football and Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame.
He also coached his daughters in summer softball and son in Little League baseball.
Wallace had the opportunity to help coach his two younger granddaughters when they played for the Oxford High School varsity softball team.
He was an active member of the North-South Skirmish Association , North Oakland Sportsmans Club, and also did cowboy shooting at the Lapeer Sportsmans Club.
Wallace is survived by his three children- Beth (Tom) Mersino, of Evart; Dee (Bob) West, of Lake Orion; and Tim Liley, of Grand Blanc. He is also survived by five grandchildren – Nicole (Keith), Sarah (Glenn), Tom (Kate), Tiffany (William) and Dakota, plus four great grandchildren – Zackary, Landon, Luke and Georgia.
A visitation was held on Oct. 7 at Lynch & Sons in Oxford.
