Water bills for customers in Oxford Township are going up slightly.
Last week, the township board voted 7-0 to approve a 30-cent rate increase.
“We’re passing along the rate increase that’s been passed along to us,” explained township Supervisor Bill Dunn.
As of July 1, customers will go from paying $1 to $1.30 for every 100 cubic feet of water they use above the 1,500 cubic-foot minimum for which they’re charged $34 per quarter (the base rate), whether they use it all or not.
The increase was precipitated by a June 2 letter from the Oakland County Water Rescources Commissioner’s Office stating the amount it charges the township to operate and maintain its water system is increasing by the aforementioned figure.
There was no increase to the base rate from the county, so it’s staying the same.
