Wayne Jay Yax, an avid outdoorsman and longtime resident of Leonard passed away November 30, 2023. He was born February 23, 1933 in Davis, the son of John Albert and Iva Hattie (Green) Yax. Upon graduating from Romeo High School, he joined the United States Army. He was sent to Walter Reed Hospital for medical training and was stationed in Germany until he was honorably discharged on March 31, 1955. Wayne married his beloved wife Joyce Florence Pawley on November 1, 1952. He became a die maker at GM Pontiac Metal Fab and was with them for 37 years until his retirement in 1988. Wayne enjoyed playing Blue Grass music on his guitar, gardening and watching Western Movies. He enjoyed the great outdoors and fishing. Wayne is a true gentleman and is the oldest living resident of Leonard. He touched the hearts of everyone including those who never met him and was known for his belly laugh. Most of all, he enjoyed time with his loving family and will be missed by many. He is survived by his beloved children Kathy (Joel) Baker of Greenwood, Missouri, Karen (Haakon) Weise of Easley, South Carolina, Cheryl Yax of Leonard, Laurie Yax of Everett, Washington, and Phillip Yax of Lapeer; 15 loving grandchildren, 11 beloved great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Visitation was held on Sunday, December 10, 2023. The Funeral Service was held on Monday Burial followed at Lakeville Cemetery where, he was put to rest next to his beloved wife Joyce.
