Taking on two more teams last week, Oxford’s boys basketball team kept its winning streak alive with victories over Seaholm and Ferndale.
On Friday Jan. 11, the Wildcats faced off against Birmingham Seaholm and took home the win, beating Seaholm 59-33 on its own court. Head Coach Steve Laidlaw said the boys had a “stellar” night defensively, ending the first quarter with a 14-0 lead. Senior guard Logan Coughlin and senior forward Dujoun Williams led the Wildcats’ defensive efforts.
On the offensive end, senior forward Michael Raisch led the boys with 12 points. Senior forward Connor Nicholson and junior forward Trey Townsend put in solid effort as well with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Earlier in the week on Jan. 8, the boys took on their fiercest competitor of the season in Ferndale. Ferndale became the first team to score more than 50 points against the Wildcats this season, but ultimately lost 75-65. Laidlaw called the match the “best game of the year” for Oxford.
Tied up at the half 35-35, the boys pulled through to win by 10 points. Laidlaw said senior guard Nolan Hiler was essential to the team’s momentum and hit back-to-back 3-pointers in the third quarter.
Overall, Townsend led the boys with 25 points and 12 rebounds. Raisch also put a lot on the board, garnering 15 points and four blocks throughout the night. Rounding out the top boys of the night, Coughlin put up 15 points and four assists.
Aiming for a double digit streak, the boys hosted Lake Orion on Jan. 15 and will host Pontiac on Jan. 17.
