Fire puts itself out

A breaking and entering report soon turned into a fire call Feb. 7, after Oakland County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to investigate a home located in the 1600 block of Twin Lakes Blvd., in response to detected motion on a home alarm at 10:57 a.m.

Upon arrival, sheriff’s deputies found the back windows of the home to be blackened, cracked, and warm to the touch, prompting them to call the Oxford Fire Department at 11:13 a.m.

When the fire crew arrived, the flames had already been extinguished, according to Fire Chief Pete Scholz.

“It must have been burning for quite a while because it had gotten to the point of starting on fire, burning the oxygen out of the house and wound up starving itself and extinguishing, so it was probably burning for a few hours (by the time officials arrived),” saidScholz.

Scholz estimated the damage to the home at roughly $120,000. There were no injuries as no one was home at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and currently being investigated.
