Golf outing to benefit local animal sanctuary

For those who love both golf and animals, the staff of the Pan Equus Animal Sanctuary (PEAS) has just the event for you.

PEAS will host its first annual “All Fores” Golf Outing, which will be held at Devil’s Ridge Golf Club (3700 Metamora Rd.) in Oxford on Sunday, Aug. 20.

Event registration and a silent auction will begin at 8 a.m. Coffee and donuts will also be available.

Tee-off for this four-person scramble begins at 9 a.m. The scramble will include 18 holes and complimentary access to the driving range. A golf cart will be provided to each group. Lunch will be served on the course.

A buffet dinner, which will include salad, pasta, and vegetable stir-fry will be served at 3 p.m., and will include a cash bar.

An award ceremony and silent auction reception will follow.

“We’re looking for more golfers and looking to get people from the community out to have a fun day with us. We have some big plans and hopefully we’ll get a few people who are interested in taking a closer look at what we do,” said PEAS Co-founder Ed Stull.

PEAS is a nonprofit organization which offers a permanent home to animals which have been abused, neglected, or suffer from medical issues. The 75-acre sanctuary, located at 940 Hummer Lake Rd., allows the animals to live out their lives in peace and dignity, according to Stull.

“What we try and do at PEAS is three-fold,” Stull said. “We do our very best to provide relief and help animals in need. It’s a mission of ours to take animals that have had a rough go in life and put them in a situation where they can live comfortably and retire and live out their life but, at the same time, make them available to other people in the community. We have a lot of regular volunteers and we bring different organizations and groups out.

“We really try to take the animals and allow them to be in a situation where they can become integrated with people. It’s good for the people and it’s good for the animals themselves. We try to use our sanctuary as a place to educate people and children in all aspects of animal welfare.”

Sponsorship opportunities and tickets can be purchased at peasgolfouting.com. Tickets for golf/dinner are available for $125 each while tickets to attend the dinner/silent auction only are available for $50 each.
