His name is Benjamin (B.J.) Frantz, but you can just call him sarge.

Last week, the Oxford Township Board voted 7-0 to promote the firefighter to the rank of sergeant.

Frantz has been with the department since July 2004. In addition to being a firefighter, he’s a paramedic, a certified fire inspector and a member of a technical rescue team organized through the Oakland County Fire Mutual Aid Association.

Fire Chief Pete Scholz noted there were five eligible candidates for the sergeant position, but only Frantz passed the test.

Frantz fills the vacancy created when B.J. Stapp was promoted to shift captain in July.
