Cats fall to 0-5 in league

It was a tale of two halves and unfortunately for the Oxford High School Varsity Football team, the first half of last Friday night’s game was too much to overcome. They lost to the West Bloomfield Lakers, 34-3.

The first quarter was particularly disastrous for the Wildcats – they fumbled twice leading to two Laker touchdowns and missed a 50 yard field goal. With about three seconds left in the first quarter, West Bloomfield had built a 34-0 lead.

Oxford’s defense held back West Bloomfield the entire second half. With about three minutes left in the game, the Wildcat offense was able to move the ball close enough for junior kicker Jay Cady to nail a 30 yard field goal for Oxford’s only score. Oxford’s loss dropped their overall record to 1-5, and 0-5 in the Oakland Activities Association Red Division. The Lakers improved to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the OOA Red.

This Friday, the ‘Cats will travel to Bloomfield Hills High School. Bloomfield is 1-6 overall and 1-4 in the OOA-White Division. Don Rush
