Beginning at 3 p.m. on March 16 and lasting until 11:59 p.m. on Monday, March 30, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s Executive Order 2020-9 mandated the closure of theaters, bars and casinos statewide. The order also limited restaurants to carry-out and delivery orders, temporarily banning all dine-in services.
With many family-friendly restaurants in the community long serving as a staple of Oxford residents’ routines, this has been quite the adjustment for some. Eventually, the COVID-19 pandemic and the fear surrounding it will reach a manageable level and our beloved local establishments will re-open like normal.
Until then, here is a helpful tracker of what each individual business is doing during this time, as many have adjusted their hours of operation or other day-to-day practices.
Leo’s Coney Island (587 N. Lapeer Rd.) Opening in Oxford roughly 13 months ago, Leo’s is open daily from 9 a.m.-to-8 p.m. All orders are being conducted through curbside pickup; an employee brings your order directly out to your vehicle, eliminating the customer traveling inside the restaurant.
Leo’s is also delivering within a five-mile radius. The opening hour may soon be receiving a push back to 11 a.m., per an employee, but as of now, 9 a.m. is still the operating plan.
Red Knapp’s American Grill (2 N. Washington St.) Red Knapp’s is continuing to open at 11:30 a.m. daily. Monday-Thursday, the restaurant closes at 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday at 9 p.m., and Sunday between 7 and 8 p.m.
Sullivan’s Public House (23 N. Washington St.) An authentic Irish establishment, Sullivan’s is open for carry-out from 3-to-8 p.m., Tuesday-Saturday.
Due to the varying availability of product, the Public House’s menu is updated daily on their Facebook page during this time. Beer and wine sales are permitted during carry-out transactions, as well.
Vendetti’s Pizza & Pasta (33 N. Washington St.) Known for being more of a carry-out establishment in the first place, Vendetti’s is continuing to serve and deliver their famous “Spankys.”
The restaurant is closed each Monday, but open the other six days of the week, beginning at 3 p.m.
Vendetti’s is still honoring carry-out orders, but is encouraging their customers to order delivery, if possible. Additionally, all payments must be handled over the phone as person-to-person transactions have been temporarily axed.
5-1 Diner (51 S. Washington St.) Located where the Starbucks used to be, 5-1 Diner is open daily from 10 a.m.-to-7 p.m. Known for serving Michigan brands such as Better Made, Dearborn and Faygo, they also offer delivery options.
