Heard it, didn’t see it
At 7:42 p.m. on September 9, deputies were dispatched to a residence on Lake Drive in Oxford Towship after a neighbor reported hearing three gunshots. The caller had also observed the couple at the house arguing earlier in the day.
Upon arrival, deputies saw a man, identified as the 36-year-old homeowner, holding a Bushmaster XM15-E2S AR-rifle through a side window. Following deputies’ orders, the man exited the house through the back door with his hands in the air.
Law enforcement then turned their attention to a woman, who was exiting the front door of the residence. According to reports, the woman, 35, was yelling and appeared to be very intoxicated.
After initially refusing to put her bottle of alcohol down, the woman complied once a deputy removed his Taser.
The woman’s mother, 53, lives next door and told deputies she heard the gunshots, but did not see the shooting. Like the other neighbor, she said she also had heard the couple arguing loudly. With both subjects detained, deputies conducted a search of the residence and found two other firearms, a .38-caliber revolver, and a Savage Arms .22-caliber rifle, which were placed into evidence, along with the Bushmaster. All three firearms were properly registered to the man.
Completing their initial investigation, deputies determined the woman was to blame. A LEIN query revealed she had two misdemeanor warrants out of Oakland County; she was charged with domestic violence with a weapon and taken to the Oakland County Jail.
Due to the man’s intoxication and agitated state, his father, a 61-year-old Lake Orion resident, was called to the scene and took him to his home for the night.

In plain sight
While running radar in a school zone on W. Drahner Road, a deputy observed a silver 2002 Jeep Liberty traveling 40 miles per hour, 15 MPH above the posted limit at 4:23 p.m. on September 9.
Initiating a traffic stop, the driver did not have his operating license with him but was identified as a 17-year-old Oxford resident. Able to detect the odor of marijuana in the vehicle, deputies detained the young man and searched the Jeep.
Roughly two-to-three grams of said substance, along with a grinder and a bowl, were found in a clear plastic bag sitting in plain sight on the backseat.
The 17-year-old was cited for possession of marijuana under 21-years-of-age, failing to display a valid license, speeding in a school zone, and no proof of valid insurance. His insurance had expired on February 26.
He was transported back to his residence by a deputy and the Jeep was impounded by Lake Orion-based Buckhorn Towing.
