At 5:51 p.m. on December 8, a 19-year-old Oxford Township resident was operating a 2007 Hummer H3 northbound on Lapeer Road near Scenic Way, just north of Indian Lake Road, when he crossed over the center median into the southbound lane and struck a 2009 Ford Fusion head-on.
Driven by an 18-year-old from Brandon Township, the Fusion in turn collided with a 2018 Chevrolet Impala in the lane next to him, driven by a 44-year-old Holly resident.
The Impala also had two children, ages seven and 11, inside.
Ending up on its roof, the driver of the Hummer H3 was trapped inside, as was the operator of the Fusion. The Oxford Fire Department responded and extricated both young men.
Transported to McLaren Regional Medical Center in Pontiac, the driver of the Fusion is listed in stable condition. His two female passengers, ages 16 and 17, were evaluated at the scene and released. All three were wearing seatbelts.
All three occupants of the Impala, who were also wearing their seatbelts, were unharmed.
Like the driver of the Fusion he struck, the operator of the Hummer H3, who was not wearing his seatbelt, was transported to McLaren Regional Medical Center. He is listed in stable condition, as well.
Authorities suspect the driver of the Hummer H3 was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs at the time of the accident and, through a search warrant, obtained a sample of his blood for testing.
The Oakland County Crash Reconstruction Unit has been assisting Oxford Township Substation Deputies with their investigation.
