Addison to vote on Romeo proposals

Only Addison Township voters in Precinct 3 will have two ballot proposals to consider at the Nov. 2 election. Both are for Romeo Community Schools, whose boundaries include Precinct 3 in the southeast corner of Addison. The proposals are for a school improvement bond and a non-homestead operating millage restoration.
The school improvement bond would be used to finance Phase 2 of a long range facilities plan established in 2015. The bond is not to exceed $87.5 million. The estimated millage that would be levied in the first year is 1.55 mills, which would be no increase from last year’s levy.
The second ballot proposal seeks to restore the non-homestead operating millage that was approved by voters in 2019, and has since been rolled back because of reductions required by the Headlee Amendment. The proposal only applies to businesses, second homes, vacant land and rental properties. Michigan law requires school districts to levy 18-mills on non-homestead property in order to receive their full share of state aid. Addison Township will be open for elections Saturday, Oct. 30 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
