Addison Twp. firefighter harassed over personal e-mail

Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies are currently investigating the ongoing harassment of an Addison Township firefighter over his personal e-mail account.
Since March 27, the firefighter, whose name is being withheld upon request, has received three threatening and vulgar e-mails from the yahoo account ‘smith48088.? The name on the return address bar says ‘john smith.?
‘This is a somewhat unusual case because the harassment is over e-mail,? said Addison Township Substation Commander Sgt. Pete Burkett.
The first e-mail, which arrived on March 27, accused the Addison firefighter of raping several women. The writer put in his message that he knows were the recipients lives, whom he lives with, where he drives and where he hangs out.
The writer also wrote that he does not agree with the ‘justice system,? and ‘it is time that someone else started taking matters in their own hands.?
The Addison firefighter immediately contacted sheriff’s deputies, concerned for the safety of himself and his family. The emergency worker told officers he was not aware of any charges or crimes as mentioned by the writer.
Deputy Hadac, with the Addison Township Substation, wrote a message to ‘john smith? asking the writer to please contact him in regards to the harassment.
On April 6, the Addison firefighter received a second e-mail stating that his ‘friends on the force? will not be able to assist him. A third e-mail containing vulgar language was received on April 12.
The case was handed over to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Computer Crimes Unit on April 12 and is still under investigation.
