Back-to-back ties for booters

In a tight Flint Metro League title race between Holly and Fenton, the Varsity Soccer team played spoiler on Monday night with their 0-0 tie with Holly.
The tie gave Fenton the FML title.
According to Head Coach John Thaler, Senior Matt Versteeg played great soccer, seeing two of his shots hit the post and fellow Senior Captain Travis Roth get robbed on a goal because of a great save by Holly’s goalkeeper.
With the tie, Holly dropped to second place in the standings and Oxford moved into a tie for third.
On Friday, Oct 9, the Wildcats played Carman Ainsworth to a 1-1 tie in a game that was cold and sloppy.
The Wildcats were able to get a break late in the first when Versteeg slotted a ball to Senior Steven Ferguson, who one-timed it back into the net. Carman Ainsworth got the game equalizer in the second after a cross into the box found its way into the back of the net.
The last victory in the FML for the Wildcats was a 3-0 victory over Linden on Wednesday, Oct. 7.
‘It was a fantastic game, the boys rebounded from the loss at Swartz Creek and played excellent soccer,? said Thaler.
Sophomore Goalie Kyle Hartwick stopped all five shots he faced, and Sophomore Marco Bonfiglio and Roth scored for the Wildcats.
The victory pushed the Wildcats past their league win total from last year, finishing their last season in the FML at 5-2-2.
