Bikers donate 100 turkeys to FISH

Thanks to a kind-hearted group of black leather clad bikers, 100 local families in need will sit down to a delicious turkey dinner on Thanksgiving.
Sixteen members of Forbidden Wheels ? a recreational motorcycle group with local charters throughout Michigan ? roared into the quiet Village of Thomas Sunday afternoon to donate 100 frozen turkeys to Oxford-Orion FISH.
‘We wanted to do something for the community to show that bikers are not all bad guys like you see on TV or in the press,? said Mike ‘Doc? Sizemore, president of Forbidden Wheels Oakland County charter, whose clubhouse is located right here in Oxford.
Founded in 1965, Forbidden Wheels boasts hundreds of members, all of which have demonstrated their willingness to help local charities and the needy time and time again.
Forbidden Wheels has seven charters across the state including Detroit, Brighton, Lenawee County, Ypsilanti, Mid-Michigan, Hell and Oakland County.
‘We’re new out here in Oxford,? said Sizemore, of Birmingham.
As for the turkey donation to FISH, Sizemore promised, ‘This is something we’re gonna do every year.?
Normally, FISH does not encourage donations of meat and other food items that require cold storage due to its limited amount of refrigerator and freezer space.
However, the generosity of Forbidden Wheels moved FISH to make an exception in this case, according to FISH Pantry Manager Val Cass.
Canned goods, non-perishable food items, gift cards and cash are still the recommended and preferred contributions.
Forbidden Wheels? turkeys, purchased from and delivered by Chef’s Pride Gifts, were distributed to local needy families earlier this week.
