Both the boy’s and girl’s Lake Orion High School Bowling teams met Tuesday, Jan. 25 to participate in a league competition against North Farmington’s bowling teams.
The boy’s team lost both games, albeit narrowly. Coach Kevin Crowther said that despite the losing score of 22-8, the actual pin count was not so wide a margin.
‘They lost a lot of games by just a few pins, and even though that score sounds nasty, it was a lot closer than it sounds,? said Crowther. ‘The boys in the first regular game shot 967 to North Farmington’s 998, and in the second to ended 962 to their 1041, so the score can be misleading.?
Crowther also mentioned that the number four player on the LOHS Boy’s Bowling team, Junior Kevin Yang, bowled 222 and 195 to his opponent’s 224 and 203.
The girl’s team, however, won both normal games that evening, bowling over 900 pins struck in either game, and winning with a final score of 28-2.
Crowther said that there were a number of qualities that found were rare in the current Lake Orion Girl’s Bowling team.
‘They bowled really really well, getting a couple of over 900 [pins struck] while North Farmington bowled 760 and 785,? said Crowther. ‘The coach of the other team actually came up to me and complimented their performance.
‘The nice part with the girl’s team is that their a young team, so they have a few more years at this and they’re already ranked #6 in the state.?
The bowling teams also played Saturday, Jan. 29 in a the tri-county tournament, which included 26 different teams. Both the boy’s and girl’s teams finished in the top 16.
