Brancheau ousted in Lake Orion election

Village council member Mark Brancheau lost his bid to retain his seat in Lake Orion’s general election on Monday.
His unofficial vote total of 136 was the fifth lowest of seven candidates. Only the top four vote getters were elected.
Current council member Harry Stephen collected the highest number of votes with 178. Newcomer Charlotte Patton was second with 168 votes.
Another incumbent, Bill Siver, earned 161 votes. Ken Van Portfliet, who had been on a previous council member, garnered 160.
The three receiving the highest number of votes will serve for two years. The candidate earning the fourth highest number of votes serves for one year.
Other candidates included Ed Roberts (133 votes) and James Keith Campbell (126).
According to village election officials, 300 residents voted. That’s 15.25 percent of the registered voters.
