Rezoning approved

Four parcels of property on the east and west sides of Louck St. were rezoned from multiple family residential to industrial in a 5-0 vote of the Oxford Village Council last week.

Located at 32 and 45 Louck St., between Church and Center streets, east of M-24, the parcels are owned by Industrial Machine Products (IMP).

IMP, which does stamping, welding and assembly for the automotive industry, is looking to grow its business, but the company cannot expand its facilities under residential zoning.

The property has been used for industrial purposes since the early 20th century.

In 2006, the village rezoned the property to multiple family residential in anticipation of a development that never happened. The owners claim the rezoning was done without their knowledge and they can find no record of notification from the village.

Outdoor dining extended

Restaurants in Oxford Village that want to offer outdoor seating to their patrons year-round are now able to do so thanks to a zoning ordinance amendment approved by a 5-0 vote of the Oxford Village Council last week.

The change allows restaurants to operate outdoor cafes and seating areas on private and public property between Nov. 2 and April 14 with special use approval from the planning commission.

Under the previous ordinance language, outdoor seating areas were only permitted between April 15 and Nov. 1.

In order to operate during the colder-weather months, the amended language requires outdoor seating areas to be equipped with temporary heaters, the design of which must be approved by the planning commission and fire chief.

It also requires the prompt removal of every snowfall exceeding 2 inches. The snow must be piled in a designated removal area that’s located either within the seating area or elsewhere on private property.

Code officer sought

Oxford Village is seeking a new code enforcement officer.

Dan Durham, who held the position for eight years, recently resigned.

The position is part-time and pays $13.86 per hour. The job requires an average of 15 hours per week.

Those interested can contact the village by calling (248) 628-2543.
