Now one step closer to their final goal of appearing at the state championships, Oxford’s cheerleaders have cemented a spot at the regional competition on Feb. 23.

The Wildcats took fourth place at the Feb. 16 district competition held in Lake Orion, taking the last spot from the district that will head to regionals.

The other three teams from district six that will head to regionals are Lake Orion, Romeo and Grand Blanc. There, 24 teams will battle for eight spots at the state championships.

To get their coveted spot, Oxford earned an overall score of 739.10. Head Coach Alanna Weber noted the team’s season-high second round score of 221.3. To get ready for regionals, the team will spend the next week perfecting and tweaking the round three group routine.

“We couldn’t be more proud of these athletes,” Weber said. “They work hard every day at practice and (each girl) wants the win not just for (herself), but for the athlete standing next to her.”
