Parks and Rec planning for pickleball

Oxford Township’s Park and Recreation department released plans for three fall events, two of which will benefit their “Pickleball Project.”

Pickleball in Oxford has grown in popularity over the past four or so years, Recreation Supervisor Dawn Medici said. In Seymour Lake Township Park, pickleball is played on the tennis courts and Medici said the courts need some improvements. There are no pickleball leagues, however the parks and rec does offer supervised open courts and lessons.

We need portable nets, additional courts, designated color lines, paddle racks, AED on site and medical kits,” Medici said of the Pickleball Project, adding shade areas are also a priority for the courts.

The two Pickleball Project events are a Classic Car Show slated for Sept. 7 and Dinner & Euchre on Oct. 6.

Cruisin’ Down Seymour’s Classic Car Show starts at 4 p.m., at Seymour Lake Township Park, 2795 Seymour Lake Rd. Besides classic cars on display, there will be music, dancing, a 50/50 raffle and BBQ, hotdogs and hamburger meals. The event ends at 8 p.m.

The Fall Dinner and Euchre event starts at 5:15 p.m. at the Senior Center. Dinner starts at 5:45, followed by the euchre tournament at 6:30. The cost for dinner and cards is $25; $15 for dinner only.

On Sept. 12, from 9 to 10 a.m., the Oxford Township Senior Center will host “Coffee & Conversation.” The seniors have asked Oxford Township Clerk Curtis Wright and Administrative Assistant Kelly Richter to be guest speakers. According to Medici, the topic of conversation will be “Oxford Township Cemeteries.”
