Downtown Oxford was abuzz with people, excitement and spirt last Thursday night for one reason and one reason only — to cheer on the Oxford high School varsity football team.
The Oxford Downtown Development Authority (DDA) organized the pep rally for the playoff bound Wildcats at Centennial Park.
Following the team’s post-practice dinner at Evergreens Coffee and Bake Shop, players and coaches joined parents and supporters at the park. DDA Director Kelly Westbrook, OHS Athletic Director Tony DeMare, Principal Steven Wolf, assistant coach Ross Wingert, player Tate Myre, DDA Chair Rod Charles and Head Coach Zach Line gave the team words of support before Friday’s playoff game in Clarkston. Matt Schuler, Journey Lutheran Church lead pastor, served as the emcee for the event.
Preparation for the rally began earlier in the day with members of the cheer team painting windows along Washington St.
