Crossroads for Youth holds Barn Sale Fund-raiser

This Saturday, May 8, Crossroads for Youth will be holding the yard sale to end all yard sales.
The Crossroads for Youth Barn Sale, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., will feature a wide variety of items such as clothes (both donated and those left by students); sporting equipment (such as bats, snowboards and free weights); appliances; backpacks and even a truck. Also, current students on the Crossroads for Youth’s campus will be making and selling special handmade crafts, including knitted baby blankets.
‘These are just odds and ends we’re pulling up,? said Tom Carter, director of operations. ‘We are trying to find some new and innovative ways to bring in money. This is just like a regular garage sale.?
Except this ‘garage sale? is being held in the historic Crossroads for Youth red barn, which has been a fixture in the community for decades, and an asset to the campus since 1951.
Originally part of a farm, the barn has gone through many transitions – at one time housing horses to now housing a low-ropes course and traversing wall as part of the Adventure Center Program.
Carter feels the site is perfect for the big sale. The red barn offers plenty of parking, outdoor space, indoor space in case of rain and ‘a beautiful landmark.?
‘Everyone knows the red barn,? he explained. ‘It’s a treasure of the Oxford community.?
The Barn Sale is open to the public, and admission and parking are free. All of the proceeds from the sale will benefit Crossroads for Youth’s general operations and recreational funds.
‘Our only goal for the day is to have fun and make a little bit of money while getting rid of stuff we don’t need,? said Carter. ‘I think there are individuals who will come just for crafts the kids are making.?
‘What a wonderful way to clean house and make a little money at the same time,? stated Karen Tuohy, agency relations coordinator, ‘and involve our children with the community.?
