Congratulations to the 30 Oxford High School DECA students who became finalists at Michigan DECA’s 60th annual State Career Development Conference in Dearborn the weekend of March 10.
Out of the 53 students from OHS who participated, 42 won medals at the state competition and 30 finalists qualified to compete at the 60th Annual High School International Career Development Conference in Dallas, Texas April 29 through May 2.
DECA is an international association of high school and college students studying marketing, management and entrepreneurship in business, finance, hospitality and marketing sales and service.
More than 14,000 high school students, advisors and sponsors are expected to participate in DECA’s international competition.
‘I was extremely proud of all of my students at the DECA competition,? said Steve Ruch, who serves as the DECA advisor at OHS. ‘Their preparation, attitude, professional behavior and attention to detail were all crucial to our success.?
Ruch said he was most excited to see the students ‘get so fired up? during the awards ceremony.
‘To steal a line from the MasterCard commercials’that was priceless. I would also like to congratulate all of the competitors’I am very proud of all the kids, whether they won their events or not,? he said.
