The other week and maybe it was just this past weekend — I don’t remember much past today these days — I was toolin? round the 90 degree curve to the west on Perry Road in Goodrich . . . I mean Atlas.
And, right there by the Atlas ‘Post Office? I was visually hit in the face.
‘Boys,? I asked of sons Shamus and Sean, ‘when did they paint that business? When did it change from that nice, quaint beige and red metal store front to that??
Neither knew.
‘That? was (and still is) the Roberts Plumbing Service building at 8515 Perry Road. It’s now a red, white and blue, stars and stripes, American Made Products proclaiming piece of Americana. I like it!
A few years ago I had Robert ‘Bob? Morgan out to Casa d’Rush to fix a leaky pip and he’s a regular dude. He worked efficiently and effectively and would have gotten done quicker if I hadn’t asked him a million questions about himself as he tried to work.
My hat is tipped to Bob for: 1. Fixing the leak; 2. investing back into his community by making his building awesome looking; and 3. promoting American-made products.

The sons and I stopped in at Mammoth Video on M-15 in Ortonville a while back (I think we were looking to rent the campy sci-fi ‘classic? movie, Sharktopus) and I noticed a chalk board sign proclaiming the shop’s ‘Digital Copies for sale, $5.?
‘Pour quoi?? I inquired.
‘Why?? the friendly clerk behind the counter countered.
‘Why?? I answered confused.
‘You asked why in French. Why what??
‘What. I asked what. What is this digital copy thing?? I clarified our fast degrading conversation.
‘Oh, that . . .? she went on, but in your best interest I’ll paraphrase what she said. Apparently, when you get a DVD or Blue Ray movie there, for only $5 more you can purchase a digital copy of the movie that you put on your computer or tablets.
I don’t know, seems like a good idea if you’re traveling or something. How does it work? I haven’t a clue, it’s above my pay grade. Call them yourself and find out, 248-793-3636.

By a show of hands out there, who knows what ‘America’s Epidemic? is? Anyone?
Well, if you have heard Clarkston’s two-time ‘best? pharmacist Frank Granett speak, or if you have read his book, you might know the answer. According to Frank, America’s ‘epidemic? is the premature over medication of our youth — in particular with regards to ADA and ADHA diagnosis.
A couple of years ago I told you of his book, Over Medicating Our Youth. In the book he outlined the problem as he saw it, as a local pharmacist filling prescriptions and steps for parents to take before medicating their children. Well, since then, he’s been across the country speaking on that very subject in person and on different syndicated radio shows.
This Sunday (Sept. 15) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Frank will be at Neiman’s Family Market at the corner of Dixie and White Lake Road, to sign his book and promote a new two-disc DVD set.
The DVD, titled Over Medicating Youth: Solutions for America’s Epidemic, is meant as an educational tool, not only for parents, but also educators and health care professionals. The ever-dapper Frank and his co-host, Jodi Debbrecht Switalski (51st District Court, Waterford), lead discussions with a number of guests. Topics of the DVD set cover identifying problems, dangers of addiction and solutions.
Frank, who lives in the Clarkston-Orion area has also cofounded the nonprofit group, Coalition Against Overmedicating Our Youth (www.caooy.org). The group advocates ‘the prudent use of drug therapy, only after comprehensive clinical bio-assessments.?
Both Frank and Jodi will be at the new Clarkston grocer to answer any questions you may have. They will be in the ‘Corner Cafe, near the store’s south entrance.
