Eileen Elta “Bean” McCarrick, 97

Eileen Elta “Bean” McCarrick passed away peacefully on January 15, 2024, at the age of 97 in Lake Orion, Michigan. She was born on May 27, 1926, in Yale, Michigan. Eileen was a remarkable woman who touched the lives of many. Eileen was married at the young age of 16 to Arnold McCarrick. They were married for 40 years until his death in 1984. She was the most giving, sweet, caring, loving, helpful, tough, feisty, and selfless person anyone could meet. Eileen was “one tough cookie.” She beat stage 4 breast cancer at the age of 79. Doctors called her a miracle. Her kind and generous nature made her a beloved member of her community. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Eileen was given the name “Bean Carrot” by one of her “girls.” When Lori met Eileen in 1973, she couldn’t pronounce Eileen McCarrick and called her “Bean Carrot.” The name has stuck ever since as her “girls” still refer to her as “Bean.” She is survived by her brother Leonard Perry of Emmet, Michigan; many nieces and nephews as well as her “kids” David and Bonnie Rathburg; “grandkids” Lori (Joe) Ferrari, Amy (Andy) Rathburg, Rebecca Rathburg, Katharine (Jake) Hawkins and Alyssa (Michael) Rathburg; “great-grandkids” Augusto and Alex Ferrari, Leighton, Elias and Ada Hawkins. Eileen was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Margaret (Mcleod) Perry, her husband Arnold McCarrick, and 15 siblings and their spouses. Eileen’s career centered around being a great caregiver to her “girls”, Lori, Amy, Becky, Katie, and Alyssa. She dedicated her life to nurturing and supporting her “kids” embodying the true spirit of a loving grandmother. She took care of many friends throughout the years and loved working at the Senior Center in Addison Township. In her leisure time, Eileen enjoyed playing Bingo and had an enduring hope of winning Publisher’s Clearing House. She made the best “coffee” for her “girls” making them feel they were grown up. In reality we think she may have invented what we know today as cappuccino. She also made the best “lumpy bread.” A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at Leonard Community Church, located at 4391 Whitehead, Leonard, Michigan, starting at 10 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial service will take place at Lakeville Cemetery, 825 Drahner Rd., Leonard, Michigan. After the burial service, a lunch will be provided at Leonard Community Church. In lieu of flowers, Eileen’s wish was to purchase a headstone for her husband Arnold and herself, a wish she had held for decades. Contributions toward the purchase of the headstone would be greatly appreciated. Donations can be sent to P.O. Box 754, Leonard, Ml 48367 or via Venmo to @AlyssaRathburg. Eileen Elta McCarrick will be remembered as a loving and caring individual who touched the lives of many. Her legacy of kindness and selflessness will continue to inspire those who knew her.
