Ex-Councilman sentenced for drunk driving

Ex-Oxford Village Councilman Michael Hamilton isn’t going to jail for his drunken driving, but he didn’t get off scot-free either.
In Rochester Hills 52-3 District Court last week, the 36-year-old village resident was placed on probation for 12 months; sentenced to pay fines and costs totaling $997; ordered to complete 75 hours of community service; and required to attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings twice a week and attend a victim impact panel.
Back in October, Hamilton pleaded guilty to operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. The charge of having an open container of alcohol in his vehicle was dismissed.
He was arrested for drunken driving July 18 after leaving a bar in downtown Oxford. A preliminary breath test administered by village police at the scene of the traffic stop indicated Hamilton had a blood alcohol content of 0.194 ? more than double the state legal limit of 0.08.
He submitted his resignation to council on July 28.
