Fire rips through Addison home’s roof

Fire erupted inside the attic and roof of an Addison Township home in the wee hours Monday morning.
Firefighters were called to 258 Ridgemont (which runs south off Indian Lake Road) around 2:30 a.m. to extinguish a house fire.
When fire personnel arrived on the scene, Addison Fire Chief George Spencer said the house was ‘heavily involved with flames through the roof.?
Spencer said the blaze was under control within 30 minutes of firefighters? arrival.
All of the home’s occupants escaped the fire safe and sound.
Although about half the home’s roof was either incinerated or collapsed, the rest of the structure survived in tact along with a majority the home’s contents, the chief said.
The chief credited his personnel and firefighters from the Orion Fire Department, who provided automatic mutual aid, with ‘making a good save.?
‘Hats off to those guys,? Spencer said.
Although the fire is under investigation by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Fire Investigation Unit as per standard procedure, the chief said there’s nothing suspicious about the suspected cause of the blaze.
Spencer said it appears the fire was possibly caused by a malfunctioning chimney or venting system for a wood burning stove located in the home’s basement.
The chief noted Oxford firefighters provided additional manpower at the scene, while members of the Oakland Township Fire Department covered Addison’s Station #2 with an engine and ambulance.
