Four vie for three seats in village election

On Tuesday, Sept. 15, Oxford Village voters go to the polls to decide who will govern their 1.4-square-mile municipality.
Voters have four candidates to choose from for three council seats. Each position carries a four-year term of office.
Village President Chris Bishop and Councilman Tom Benner are both seeking re-election. They face challenges from opponents Maureen ‘Mo? Helmuth and David Bailey.
Ex-councilman Mike Hamilton’s name appears on the ballot as the fifth candidate, but he’s no longer running. Hamilton resigned from council July 28 following his July 18 arrest for drunken driving and having an open container of alcohol inside his vehicle.
Given the timing of his resignation, it was too late to remove his name from the ballot.
Village residents wishing to vote in next week’s election can do so between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. at the Oxford Veterans Memorial Civic Center (28. N. Washington Street).
This is the only polling location for the village’s 2,404 registered voters.
