Friedhilde Saxon, 85

Friedhilde “Frieda” Saxon, 85, of Metamora, passed away at home, surrounded by her beloved family and loyal cat, Jasmine, on March 14, 2024. Friedhilde was born in Karlsruhe, Germany to Jakob and Emma Eisinger. She moved from Germany to Michigan in 1958 where she learned English on the job as a dental assistant. She went on to manage dental offices and work at General Motors in Pontiac. Frieda eventually transferred with GM to Tonawanda, New York where she spent 20 years and eventually retired, making life-long friends there, and helping her community. She was especially dedicated to the Toys for Tots Drives. During her time in Western New York, Frieda lived a full life. She went sky diving, hosted friends and family in her beautiful home for visits, and became a great tour guide, taking all her visitors to the sights nearby, like Niagara Falls. Friedhilde made many cherished memories each time she returned home to Germany to visit. She even brought friends from the states along with her to Germany where she became another tour guide in her homeland. She was always very proud of her German heritage, and she loved reconnecting with her family and friends each time she returned. After retirement from GM, Frieda was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. When she was no longer able to live alone, Frieda moved back to Michigan where her daughters, Anita and Alana, cared for her around the clock, with the help and support of her son-in-law, Alen. For 10 loving years, they helped their mother live with dignity and as much independence as possible until the very end. Due to their dedication and sacrifice, she never had to leave the comforts of her own home. Their commitment speaks to the wonderful mother and woman Friedhilde was. It was her generosity and love of family that inspired her daughters to give back so much to their mother. Friedhilde is survived by her loving daughters Anita Caswell and Alana (husband Alen) Derryberry of Metamora, and Jody (husband Chris) McHugh of Staunton, VA; grandchildren Melanie Gorang, Jakob Caswell, Adam and Alex Derryberry, Maximus, Ian, Ava, Finnian, Titus, and Jude McHugh; great-grandchildren Makenna Brown, Axel Derryberry; and her family in Germany: her very dear sister Christa Kraft of Germany; and nephew Klaus (wife Elke) Eisinger and their children Andreas and Isabel. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jakob and Emma Eisinger; brother Helmut Eisinger; sister-in-law Maria Eisinger; and brother-in-law Claus Kraft. Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors-Bossardet Chapel in Oxford. A graveside memorial is being planned for July.
